Periodontitis & Ortodonti
If there is an infection or a destruction on the tooth side tissues, based on various periodontal disease we cannot talk about mouth care.
The surrounding tissues supporting the teeth and the gum have to be healthy as a whole and if there is an infection or a destruction on the tooth side tissues based on various periodontal disease we cannot talk about mouth care.
Periodontitis; is a disease and infection, characterised with the destruction of the tooth and the supporting tissues (periodontal ligament, cement and the alveolar bone). The infection in the gum has been through to alveolar bone (jaw bone). The main reason of periodontitis is the bacteria plaque and can be cured mechanically. But genetics, surrounding and systematic diseases cause the formation of the sickness. The systematic diseases can be diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, Down’s syndrome, AIDS or blood disorders.
The first symptom of the most common periodontal diseases is the bleeding in the gum. The gum becomes bruised, swelled and with a shiny surface. And sometimes; halitosis, scratching on the gum, sense of bleeding or sensitivity on the teeth accompany the periodontal diseases which effect everybody from children to old people in different manners. And sometimes the patient does not suffer pain but the disease becomes worse. And when the client feels pain, the proper teeth fall because of the lack of the support tissues.
The patient is treated on mouth hygiene, before the therapy plan, emphasizing on the health of the periodontal tissues. Tooth brushing, dental floss are presented on application. If there are unhealthy surrounding tissues and there is movement on the tooth, the main idea will be the treatment of these teeth and to keep them in the mouth. The types of the disease and the level lead to appropriate healing methods, such as; primarily mouth hygiene, removal of tartar, stiffening of the surface of the root, regenerative, reconstructive and mucogingival operations.
The aesthetic of the mouths of the people who have high laughing line is considered within the limits of periodontal treatment.
Periodontal treatment, is a dentistry service, with perfect results when the necessary touches have been made resulting in good ratio and customer satisfaction is high. To keep in mind, no restorative treatment can be applied to the teeth which are not periodontal healthy.
Orthodontic treatments are applied to prevent the defects on the teeth-jaw-facial area, to stop the progress of the defects and to correct the functions.
How do the orthodontic defects appear?
- • Genetic reasons
- • Anomalies coming from the birth (cleft lip and palate etc.)
- • Adenoids, breathing from the mouth
- • Harmful habits (thumb sucking, using soother for a long term etc.)
- • Losing the milk teeth early because of decaying
- • Teeth grinding or traumas like falling or hitting on the face
When should you ask for an orthodontic examination?
It is very essential to ask for early stage orthodontic examination to prevent the growing disorders in children of 5-6 age group. In some cases, when such a disorder is diagnosed early, the orthodontics specialist may ask the parents for a periodical examination to decide the appropriate date to start the therapy.
Orthodontic therapy is possible at every age. But for the jaw problems, children must be taken to a doctor, to take the benefit of growing as well, just before the teenage term starts (10-12 age).
The early stage preventive and cautious treatments prevent further and more complicated problems. If the jaw problems are not solved before getting worse, the doctor may ask for orthodontic treatment combined with orthognactic surgery
Prophylaxis orthodontic treatment
The main idea in protective treatments is to prepare the place for the permanent teeth to grow in a proper shape. For this purpose place holders for the milk teeth which are lost early are prepared. Besides a follow up by a pediatric dentist is highly recommended for the children with decay-easy teeth.
Preventive Orthodontic Treatment
Various movable tools can be prepared to open space for new teeth or to prevent harmful habits, thumb sucking and abnormal swallowing.
Permanent Orthodontic Treatment
The orthodontic treatment continues after the constant teeth keep on growing with the brackets fixed on the teeth. These can be in silver, gold, transparent/tooth colours or in blue and pink colours.
Regarding aesthetics, the brackets can be placed to the inner faces so that the patient does not get irritated because of the appearance of the brackets (lingual orthodontics)
